Petitions and Responses
Petitions may be presented to the Assembly by any Member, subject to the requirements of Standing Orders. While it is an accepted convention for a Member to present a particular petition, the Member is not obliged to do so. The fact that a Member presents a petition does not necessarily mean that they endorse its content.
The Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory is able to consider a petition only if a subject of a petition is within the scope of the Assembly's legislative or administrative power.
