When will the minister begin negotiations with the Department of Defence to have it make a financial contribution to the Northern Territory Fire Service as occurs in other states in return for state fire services extending fire protection to its installations?

Mr Speaker, I advise the member that in fact the department is talking to the Department of Defence about the proposed removal of its fire service from the RAAF. It is examining ways and means of ensuring that a contribution can be paid to the government. Those negotiations are proceeding. I directed the department in relation to this matter some months ago.
