Mr REED - 1994-12-01

Mr REED (Health and Community Services): Mr Speaker, during Question Time, the member for Nelson asked a question in relation to the Water Supply and Sewerage System Extension Policy. I can advise the member that currently the authority is conducting a planning study of the demands and constraints on the water supply system to the Darwin rural area south of the 19-Mile. The study is scheduled for completion in late December 1994 and will identify requirements and options for augmentation. Any capital works identified in the study will be subject to normal budgetary considerations. WASSEP will include connection of some customers already serviced by spaghetti lines, and therefore these connections will not increase the demand on the existing system. however, recent proposals for subdivision development in the area have identified constraints in the system that are being assessed in the study which is under way. Implementation of WASSEP is expected in early January 1995, after the legislation is assented to and charges have been gazetted.
