Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mrs HICKEY - 1995-05-17

The Attorney-General would be well aware that the member for Port Darwin's leadership team claims that he has now entered the comfort zone in the current leadership battle. Given this, I ask the Attorney-General whether he has given consideration to the ramifications for the administration of justice in the Northern Territory of having, as Chief Minister, a person who has been found guilty of professional misconduct by his peers in the Northern Territory Law Society?

ANSWER

Mr Speaker, I cannot believe that the member for Barkly would sink as low as other members on her side have demonstrated a capacity to do. She ought to feel a modicum of shame after having dumped the poor member for Wanguri from the deputy leadership.

Mr Bailey interjecting.

Mr FINCH: I must admit that ...

Mr SPEAKER: Order! The member for Wanguri should recall my comments of yesterday.

Mr FINCH: I understand the hurt of the member for Wanguri given that he could not hold the numbers to retain his job in a parliamentary wing of 7. I do not know exactly how members opposite do things, nor do I ever want to know how they do things. Accordingly, I would say that what happens on this side of the House is none of their business either. As for the most inappropriate comments in regard to the member for Port Darwin ...

Mr Stirling: Inappropriate?

Mr FINCH: Totally inappropriate. I will treat them with the contempt they deserve.
