I refer the Chief Minister to the decline in per capita household income over the last 10 years that is shown in the statistics that were tabled this morning. Does the Chief Minister take responsibility for that decline? Will the government develop a social justice strategy to reverse the decline in the average household income?

Mr Speaker, this is a very intellectual question.

Mr PERRON: The member ought to take a lesson from the recent election campaign in which members opposite persistently quoted figures that the community and I simply do not believe. The classic was the 5000 jobs lost in the Northern Territory. That was absolutely unbelievable. The Leader of the Opposition claimed persistently that the Northern Territory economy was a basket case and ...

Mr PERRON: It was exactly that misinterpretation of information which placed the opposition in a totally unbelievable situation, and the electorate demonstrated that at the polls. Members opposite can produce all the excuses they want. They can blame the whole world, but the fact is that they blew it because they cannot handle the information that they have. They cannot even interpret it correctly. The Leader of the Opposition is trying to tell Territorians that their standard of living has been declining over the last 10 years.

Mr PERRON: I am sorry, but you are out of your tree. It is simply not happening.
