Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr PERRON - 1994-06-30

Mr PERRON (Chief Minister): Mr Speaker, to digress for a moment, surely the ultimate in macho behaviour would be to use a crocodile warning sign as a towel rail.

In answer to an earlier question from the member for Nelson, I indicated great personal anguish at possible mistreatment of the Northern Territory flag on a sticker produced for Territory Day tomorrow. I have now had the opportunity to peruse what one might call a stylised version of the Northern Territory flag and I believe there could be some debate as to whether or not the flag is upside down, whether the desert rose is upside down and the

Southern Cross is upright - one can see only a portion of each - or whether both are upside down. There is enough ambiguity to dissuade me from seeking to issue significant writs against the publisher of this document for the Northern Territory government. I hope that all Territorians will proceed to enjoy Territory Day tomorrow. It is a very significant day in the Territory's history.
