Mrs PADGHAM-PURICH - 1996-11-27
In view of his interest in safety on Northern Territory roads, has he given consideration to having a helicopter monitor traffic at appropriate times on Darwin roads and farther down the highway near traffic black spots?
ANSWER
Mr Speaker, I hope that, if such a proposal were adopted, the helicopter would never go anywhere near Wallaby Holtze Road. I am aware that a particular resident of Wallaby Holtze Road has made complaints about low-flying aircraft over her residence. She has mentioned that in this parliament on many occasions.
The cost of such a proposal may be exorbitant. However, it is not a bad idea. I will refer the member's suggestion to the Road Safety Council. In fact, the Darwin sector of the council will be meeting tomorrow night. I will forward this suggestion for its consideration along with the package of proposals that have been decided on already by the government.
