Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mrs PADGHAM-PURICH - 1996-08-13

Is it a fact that the secretary of the Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries is today paying a visit to the Coastal Plains Research Station to tell the staff of the government's plans to sell the station? Does the minister regard this as a dereliction of his duty of care for primary industries research in the Northern Territory and, if not, why not?

ANSWER

Mr Speaker, I understand the secretary of the Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries is at the Coastal Plains Research Station today discussing the future of that facility with the staff. There is absolutely no dereliction of duty. I can give the honourable member assurances that the necessary research effort on behalf of Northern Territory primary industries will be continued.
