Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mrs PADGHAM-PURICH - 1994-12-01

Given the recent well-presented display of horticultural, agricultural and piscatorial produce in this parliament's reception hall, which Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries personnel mounted, is the department considering similar displays in other places so that more people are able to see our horticultural, agricultural and piscatorial produce?

ANSWER

Mr Speaker, the display in the reception hall was prepared for next year's show circuit. As it moves around the Territory, all Territorians will have an opportunity to view it. The range of products displayed is limited by what is in season. I imagine that, during the course of the coming year, most Territorians will have an opportunity to view that display. It will be at the 4 major shows, including the Fred's Pass Rural Show. This year, we had a horticultural field day at the CPRS also. At AZRI next year, we will attempt to have an open day in conjunction with the Beef Conference that will be conducted there. In answer to the member's question, the department intends to give all Territorians an opportunity to view that display. However, she should be mindful of the fact that the produce displayed at any time is limited by seasonal factors.
