In August last year, just 6 months ago, after a period of some 7 years as Minister for Police, in response to a question from myself, the Chief Minister stated: 'I do not believe that this government's funding or staffing of the Northern Territory Police Force is deficient in any way'. He made that remark only 6 months ago. Does he still stand by that statement?
ANSWER
Mr Speaker, I simply refer the honourable member to my contribution to the debate yesterday on this very question and to his censure motion wherein I was happy to stand as head of the government and acknowledge that the review team recently completed its study and found that indeed the Northern Territory Police Force does require additional resources, financial, manpower and otherwise, in order to bring itself up to the level required to maintain the high standards of service to which we have been accustomed. Thus, I have acknowledged exactly the point that the Leader of the Opposition wishes to make.
