Early last month, there was relatively wide media coverage about concerns being expressed by some parents of students at Essington School. These concerns focused on potential health problems which could occur for students as a result of the radio signals emanating from a mobile phone base station located adjacent to that school. Recent media reports have indicated that the tower is now to be relocated. Are these reports correct?

Mr Speaker, despite the interjections of members opposite, this is an important issue for parents of children attending Essington School. A technical expert from the network design and construction section of Telstra flew to Darwin this week and 2 sites are being assessed. Further computer modelling is being carried out. I have every confidence that we will be able to come to an amicable agreement on this. Let me assure parents that the tower is to be moved.
