Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr STONE (Chief Minister): - 1997-02-27

Mr STONE (Chief Minister): Mr Speaker, I wish to provide a supplementary answer on police resources, now that I have had an opportunity to look at the inter-office memorandum that was tabled by the opposition. In fact, it related to the warrants and inquiries section. I understand, on advice, that it involves 2 people at most being in court.

The point I want to make is that the rearrangement of rosters that day did not detract from active policing ...

Mr Bailey: It is a month, not a day.

Mr STONE: Will you be quiet? I have my facts straight. It is easy for you to come in here and drop a document that we have never seen before and to embellish it and gild the lily.

We find out ...

Mr Bailey interjecting.

Mr SPEAKER: Order!

Mr STONE: No, you are not interested in the answer. That is the problem. You are interested only in trying to create false impressions and misconceptions in the community.

This relates to the warrants and inquiries section. At most, it involves 2 people, including an auxiliary. In the event that there was up-front policing to be done on the street, that was not compromised in any way, shape or form. All the rosters, in terms of front-counter duties, continued on foot.
