Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr EDE - 1996-02-29

I refer the Chief Minister to his remarks regarding my competence, and his comment that members on this side were demonstrated to be incapable and lazy because letters have gone to members of his staff, and that we would be unable to run government because of that failure. I refer him to a letter that he wrote to J.L. Kiss - my legal adviser! - at GPO Box 3721 - my box number! - on Chief Minister's letterhead, from the Chief Minister's database. `Dear Jenny ...' It is a 2-page letter about his intervention against the Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment in relation to Stuart Park. Here also is a letter from his other database as member for Port Darwin. It is so wonderful. He could not lie straight in bed. I ask him if he can explain this other one which is on his own electorate office letterhead - from his own database. Again, it is to Kiss, Box 3721.

Mr Speaker, I seek leave to table a copy of that letter.

Leave granted.

Mr SPEAKER: Order! I ask the member to ask his question as quickly as possible.

Mr EDE: Mr Speaker, I give the Chief Minister the opportunity to explain his incompetence, laziness and inability to run the government because of the failure of his database.

ANSWER

Mr Speaker, it just goes to show that the system is not perfect. However, the chances are that the lady concerned has nominated that address for receiving correspondence.

Mr Ede: So?

Mr STONE: What do you mean `so'? There is no point in writing to her care of the post office. If she has nominated a mailing address, I write to that address. However, I can tell you that she will not be getting any further mail from me.
