Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr STIRLING - 1995-11-23

Yesterday, the Chief Minister said that the Minister for Health Services had his full support and would continue to be a minister in his Cabinet. Last month, the Chief Minister told at least one journalist that the member for Leanyer would be shuffled off to the backbench by January. On which occasion was the Chief Minister telling the truth?

ANSWER

It is a complete fabrication, Mr Speaker.

Members interjecting.

Mr STONE: You cannot come in here, make statements of that kind and refer to `one journalist'. Get to your feet and name the person.

Mr Ede: No. You tell us.

Mr STONE: I said that it is a fabrication. It is not true.

Mr Ede: They know it is true.

Mr STONE: I realise you are embarrassed. You have that stupid, awkward look on your face. I invite the member for Nhulunbuy to get to his feet and name the journalist. Until he does, he has no credibility. This is another example of members opposite making things up. We see examples of it every Question Time. We had an example yesterday in relation to daylight saving. They tell only half the story, and they are caught out all the time. That is why Territorians will not vote for them. They tell half-truths and misrepresent matters. I urge the member for Nhulunbuy to name the journalist.
