Do the recent advances in early DNA detection of melioidosis in humans by staff at the Menzies School of Health Research have any veterinary application in the incidence of melioidosis in stock and animals in the Top End?
ANSWER
Mr Speaker, this is a good question. In relation to the advances made in the diagnostic services, it is far too early for us to ascertain whether or not the advances at the Menzies School of Health Research will have any application in diagnosing melioidosis in either great or small stock. I am sure veterinary pathology staff in my department will be taking a keen and close interest in this research program. I will advise the member for Nelson of further action later in these sittings or by letter after the sittings.
