Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr COULTER - 1994-10-11

Mr COULTER: Mr Speaker, this answer is in response to the member for MacDonnell's Question that has been on the Question Paper for 5 years. The member for MacDonnell asked me a Question last Thursday in relation to the marketing budget of the Northern Territory Tourist Commission over the periods 1987-88 and 1989-90. At the time, he said that this Question had been on notice for 5 years. I am happy to provide the honourable member with the detailed information he is seeking. Technically speaking, however, I should tell the member that the Question is not on notice at all because it lapsed when the parliament was prorogued earlier this year.

Mr Bell: Yes, you were told that! That is not in dispute.

Mr COULTER: A little office research shows that a complete answer to the member's Question on notice was prepared by my predecessor in September 1991 and was approved by my predecessor for distribution to the member, although that did not happen for one reason or another. A probable explanation for that is that a gremlin intervened. The member asked a 10-point Question and I hereby provide him with the answers. Mr Speaker, I table my response to the member.
