Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr EDE - 1994-10-12

I asked the minister if he saw any copy which, by word or by picture, featured Aquascene. He has had 24 hours in which to check the details. Will he now answer my Question?

ANSWER

Mr Speaker, I cannot recall whether I did or whether or not there was even a concept with Aquascene on it. In fact, it says here that I am 100% sure that I have never seen anything on the Top End.

Mr COULTER: Mr Speaker, they cannot get it into their heads that there was a concept. Daryl Somers is the best thing that we have had going for us in respect of advertising. The sketches were produced, and they said: 'What do you think of this for an idea?'

Mr Ede: This is a photograph.

Mr COULTER: I said: 'That looks all right. I reckon it will go over well. The handwriting and the 'Dear Daryl' note should start some interaction. I think it is a great concept. Let's do it'. The Northern Territory Tourist Commission Board and the regional tourism associations went ahead and developed it. That is about the level of involvement I had with it. In terms of whether I saw a mock-up or a sketch or the word 'Aquascene', I am reliably informed 100% that I did not.

Mr Ede: By whom?

Mr COULTER: By my staff and by the Tourist Commission. There probably isn't even a concept for the Top End, you fool!

Mr Ede: You did it without a concept?
