Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr BAILEY - 1995-06-20

The last audit of Modular Medical Products, a government company or at least a company which has significant government investment in it, was carried out in 1991. As a result of that audit, the 1991 annual return filed with the Australian Securities Commission revealed deficiencies. As we pointed out previously, the company has sustained operating losses totalling more than $500 000 since that time, yet no further audits have been carried out. Has the Chief Minister been advised of this adverse audit report? What action did he take to clear up the deficiencies referred to in the audit report, and to ensure that taxpayers' funds have been protected since 1991?

ANSWER

Mr Speaker, I believe the Leader of the Opposition raised this matter with me at the last sittings. I spoke immediately with the Secretary of the Department of Industries and Development, and gave instructions on all the matters that the member for Wanguri has put to me this morning.
