Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr EDE - 1995-02-23

Mr Speaker, given his current laissez-faire attitude to running his party, and indeed the Northern Territory, it is not surprising that the Chief Minister was not present in the Chamber when the vote was taken on the polling motion last night. Can he tell us now whether he supports the political instincts of his Minister for Education and Training or those of his Minister for Asian Relations?

ANSWER

Mr Speaker, this is amazing. A couple of days ago, the Leader of the Opposition was lamenting how the entire media was devoting extensive attention to the Rights of the Terminally Ill Bill and associated matters whereas he wanted to talk about the real issues facing the Territory - Aboriginal health, education, the housing needs of his constituents etc. He was saying the he could not get anyone in the media to listen. He could not get any attention. What has he done today? He has the audience of the press and Question Time is being broadcast, but he has already blown 2 questions on feeding the media in relation to the very issue that he was asking it to leave alone in favour of the real issues in the Territory. Why doesn't he ask me a decent question?
