Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr PERRON - 1994-11-24

Mr PERRON (Chief Minister)(by leave): Mr Speaker, by way of interjection ...

Mr EDE: A point of order, Mr Speaker! It is the practice of this House that personal explanations are made after Question Time. The Chief Minister sought leave and leave was denied. He has to wait until after Question Time.

Mr SPEAKER: It is up to the Chair to grant leave for a personal explanation. If the Chief Minister is prepared to wait until after Question Time, that may be appropriate.

Mr PERRON: Mr Speaker, quite clearly, you are within standing orders to rule that there was no question before the Chair between questions.

By way of interjection, the member for MacDonnell offended and misrepresented me by claiming that I have never knocked on a door in Fannie Bay. I can assure the member and my constituents that, over 7 or 8 successive elections, I have knocked on quite a few doors in Fannie Bay. I would like to express my appreciation to my constituents for supporting me as well as they have. I think that my vote has increased on each occasion.

Mr Bell: It dramatically decreased actually.

Mr PERRON: I am very honoured to represent them in this House.
