Mr STONE - 1995-10-19
Mr STONE (Chief Minister): Mr Speaker, the member for Nelson asked a question of me earlier in the week in relation to the Fire Service Act.
Mr Bailey: What about the other question on open government?
Mr STONE: I am sure that she is interested in the answer, even if the member for Wanguri is not.
Mr Bailey: Just because there are problems with democracy does not mean ...
Mr SPEAKER: Order!

Mr Mitchell: The king brown is striking.
Mr STONE: No, do not call him a king brown. He is a gecko. You overstate his ability.
In relation to the question that the member for Nelson asked, a decision was taken by Cabinet to draft a Fire Emergency Bill, to replace the current Fire Services Act, which would incorporate certain principles and changes. I understand that that has been the subject of wide community consultation and the draft bill is now coming back to Cabinet.
Mrs Padgham-Purich: I have not seen it.
Mr STONE: That concerns me, and I will ensure that the member for Nelson receives a full briefing on the proposed legislation.
