Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr STIRLING - 1994-06-30

I refer the minister to his arrogant answer to my question about State Square last Tuesday. Can the minister now tell the House the projected completion date and cost of the State Square project? Will he finally explain to the House the details of discussions that government held with Warren Anderson last month?

ANSWER

Mr Speaker, I remind the member that I provided an answer to his question the last time he asked it. That answer covered 1 and a half pages in the Daily Hansard. I repeat that the parliament will be opened on 18 August.

Members interjecting.

Mr MANZIE: Obviously, the period of time that it takes to complete the building can be extended. Matters such as the balancing of air-conditioners etc need to be attended to and, as a matter of course, quite often the final completion of a building takes place after people have occupied it for some time. Thus, it is ridiculous to ask for a statement that it will be completed on a specific date.

Mr Bailey interjecting.

Mr MANZIE: The member for Wanguri's ignorance shows in this respect. The building will be opened on 18 August. I am sure that the member for Nhulunbuy will be able to comment about his surrounds at the next parliamentary sittings. He may be able to apologise for some of the inferences that members opposite are making presently.

I had discussions with the person to whom the member referred. I believe that the solicitors for both parties had some dealings. I am unaware of the details of those dealings, but I do not intend to delve into or provide any information about them.
