Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr STIRLING - 1999-02-24

Does the Chief Minister’s government support Territory workers receiving a higher district allowance?

ANSWER

Mr Speaker, I am sure the opposition will make much of this, too. I think there are areas in the Northern Territory that require particular consideration, particularly remote areas that require unique consideration. But it would be my fervent hope that when we talk about Darwin and Alice Springs, they are so positioned and so competitive with other states in Australia, that other Australians wished they lived there, and therefore a special allowance would not be necessary.
