Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr STIRLING - 2000-05-18

I ask the Attorney-General, if he thought and still thinks there was nothing wrong with the secret deal for the Chief Magistrate, why did he commit to changing it at the very first opportunity available to him; and would he spell out, in detail, exactly what he believed was wrong with it?

ANSWER

Mr Speaker, much as I would like to wax lyrical on this subject, the reality is that as the Attorney-General I am constrained, because the nature of the member’s question goes to part of the issue that is to be decided in the court and, therefore, I am unable to respond.
