Department of the Legislative Assembly, Northern Territory Government

Mr STIRLING - 2001-06-07

Mr Speaker, I refer the minister to the two year freeze applied to the disbursement of the community benefit fund, not grant, fund, on the basis that it was under some review. I ask the minister, where is this review? Table this review. Does he have a gaming machine community benefit committee in accordance with section 151 of his own Gaming Machine Act?

How did Treasurer Reed gain control of this fund as indicated by those newspaper advertisements he was referring to and how does he explain this prima facie misappropriation of this fund by the Treasurer?

ANSWER

Mr Speaker, this is a weak comeback by the member for Nhulunbuy. He has just heard that this fund is all about providing benefit to the community and that is exactly what this government is doing. We are using those funds to provide great benefit to the community right across the Northern Territory, to all organisations, and if he has a problem with that and it does not seem that he does, as we have heard from my colleague, then he should go and tell people all about it.

Ms MARTIN: Point of order, Mr Speaker! There are very specific questions there.

Mr SPEAKER: There is no point of order on those grounds because the minister can answer the question any way he chooses.
