      The Assembly met at 10.00 h. The Speaker, the Honourable T. R. McCarthy, took the Chair.

      Answer to question: The Minister for Education (Mr Lugg) answered a question asked earlier this sitting relating to remote teachers non contact time.
      The Minister for Health, Family and Children’s Services (Mr Dunham) corrected references he had quoted from an ATSIC letter during an answer provided earlier this day.

      The Leader of Government Business (Mr Palmer) asked that further questions be placed on the Question Paper.

6. COMMERCIAL TENANCIES LEGISLATION WORKING PARTY REPORT, MAY 2001 – PAPER TABLED – STATEMENT - :
      The Minister for Industries and Business (Mr Baldwin) laid on the Table the Report of the Working Party, Commercial Tenancies Legislation, May 2001. (Paper 2490)
      Mr Baldwin made a statement relating thereto.
7. REPORT OF THE PAROLE BOARD OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY, 31 DECEMBER 2000 – PAPER TABLED – STATEMENT:
      The Minister for Correctional Services (Mr Manzie) laid on the Table the Report of the Parole Board of the Northern Territory for the year ending 31 December 2000. (Paper 2491)
      Mr Manzie made a statement relating thereto.
8. NT SAFE, CRIME PREVENTION INITIATIVE – MINISTERIAL STATEMENT – STATEMENT NOTED:
      The Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services (Mr Reed) made a statement relating to the crime prevention initiative, NT Safe. (Paper 2492))
      Mr Reed moved – That the Assembly take note of the Statement.

      The Minister for Local Government (Dr Lim) made a statement relating to development of government Partnership Agreements with Local Government. (Paper 2493)

10. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AMENDMENT BILL 2001 (Serial 319):
      The Treasurer (Mr Reed), pursuant to notice, presented a Bill for an Act to amend the Financial Management Act.

11. CORPORATIONS (NORTHERN TERRITORY REQUEST) BILL 2001 (Serial 331); CORPORATIONS REFORM (NORTHERN TERRITORY) BILL 2001 (Serial 333); CORPORATIONS (NORTHERN TERRITORY) AMENDMENT BILL 2001 (Serial 332); AND CORPORATIONS REFORM (CONSEQUENTIAL AMENDMENTS NT) BILL 2001 (Serial 334):
      Suspension of Standing Orders: The Leader of Government Business (Mr Palmer) on behalf of and at the request of the Attorney-General (Mr Burke) moved – That so much of Standing Orders be suspended as would prevent Bills entitled: Corporations (Northern Territory Request) Bill 2001 (Serial 331); Corporations Reform (Northern Territory) Bill 2001 (Serial 333); Corporations (Northern Territory) Amendment Bill 2001 (Serial 332); and Corporations Reform (Consequential Amendments NT) Bill 2001 (Serial 334) –

      (a) being presented and read a first time together and one motion being put in regard to, respectively, the second readings; the committee’s report stage; and the third readings of the Bills together; and

      (b) the consideration of the Bills in the Committee of the Whole.

      Question – put and passed – there being an absolute majority of the whole number of Members present and no dissentient voice.

      The Leader of Government Business (Mr Palmer) on behalf of and at the request of the Attorney-General (Mr Burke), pursuant to notice, presented a bill for an Act to request the Parliament of the Commonwealth to enact legislation in respect of certain matters relating to corporations and financial products and services; a Bill for an Act to amend the Corporations (Northern Territory) Act; a Bill for an Act to enact ancillary provisions relating to the enactment by the Parliament of the Commonwealth of new corporations legislation and new ASIC legislation and for other purposes; and a Bill to amend the various Acts and Regulations consequential on the enactment of the Corporations Reform (Northern Territory) Act 2001 and incidental to other legislation.

16. TELECOMMUNICATIONS (INTERCEPTION) NORTHERN TERRITORY BILL 2001 (Serial 326):
      The Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services (Mr Reed), pursuant to notice, presented a Bill for an Act to enable the Police Force of the Northern Territory to be declared an agency for the purposes of the Telecommunications (Interception) Act 1979 of the commonwealth and for related purposes.
