      The Assembly met at 10.00 h. The Speaker, the Honourable T R McCarthy, took the Chair.

    7. DESIGNATED FLOOD LEVELS FOR DEVELOPMENT PURPOSES, KATHERINE - MINISTERIAL STATEMENT – STATEMENT NOTED:
        The Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment (Mr Baldwin) made a statement relating to new designated flood levels applying to Katherine for building and development purposes (Paper 2016).
        Mr Baldwin moved – That the Assembly take note of the statement.

        The Minister for Communications, Science and Advanced Technology (Mr Adamson) made a statement relating to the developments and strategies of the Northern Territory Office of Communications, Science and Advanced Technology to keep pace with global changes in new technologies (Paper 2021).
        Mr Adamson moved – That the Assembly take note of the statement.

        The Minister for Sport and Recreation (Mr Lugg) made a statement relating to funding and grants in the development of sport and recreation activities (Paper 2024).
        Mr Lugg moved – That the Assembly take note of the statement.

    10. OATHS AMENDMENT BILL 2000 (Serial 255):
        The Attorney-General (Mr Burke), pursuant to notice, presented a Bill for an Act to amend the Oaths Act.
        Bill read a first time.
        Mr Burke moved – That the Bill be now read a second time.
        Debate ensued.
        On the motion of the Member for Nhulunbuy (Mr Stirling) debate was adjourned.

    11. EDUCATION AMENDMENT BILL (No. 2) 2000 (Serial 252):
        The Minister for School Education (Mr Lugg), pursuant to notice, presented a Bill for an Act to amend the Education Act.
        Bill read a first time.
        Mr Lugg moved – That the Bill be now read a second time.
        Debate ensued.
        On the motion of the Member for Nhulunbuy (Mr Stirling) debate was adjourned.
    12. FIREARMS AMENDMENT BILL 2000 (Serial 253):
        Suspension of Standing Orders – Pass Bill through all stages: The Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services (Mr Reed) moved – That so much of Standing Orders be suspended as would prevent the Firearms Amendment Bill 2000 (Serial 253) passing through all stages at this sittings.
        Question – put and passed – there being an absolute majority of the whole number of Members present and no dissentient voice.
        The Order of the Day having been read for the resumption of debate on the question – That the Bill be now read a second time –

        Bill read a second time.
        Leave granted for a motion for the third reading of the Bill to be moved forthwith.
        On the motion of the Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services (Mr Reed) the Bill was read a third time and passed to be a proposed law.
