1. MEETING:
      The Assembly met at 10.00 h. The Speaker, the Honourable T. R. McCarthy, took the Chair.

2. PRAYERS.

3. VISITORS:
      The Speaker advised Members of the presence in the Speaker’s Gallery of Defence Industries Study Course 2001 personnel accompanied by Mr B F Coulter, NT Chairman and Mr Zupp, Director.

      The Speaker drew the attention of Members to the presence in the galleries of Year 11 Remote Area Local Government students from St Johns College accompanied by Ms Jenny McNamara.
      On behalf of all Members the Speaker extended a warm welcome to the visitors.

4. PETITION:
      The Member for Greatorex (Dr Lim) presented a petition from 48 petitioners requesting Territory Health Services Agreement be honoured to financially support the Salvation Army Hostel accommodation in Alice Springs for homeless men. (Paper 2471)
      Petition read.
5. NOTICES:
      The following notices were given:

7. NORTHERN TERRITORY ROAD SAFETY STRATEGY 2001-2003 PAPER TABLED – MOTION TO NOTE PAPER:
      The Minister for Transport and Works (Mr Palmer) laid on the Table the Northern Territory Road Safety Strategy 2001-2003. (Paper 2466)
      Mr Palmer made a statement relating thereto.
      Mr Palmer moved – That the Assembly take note of the Paper. )
      On the motion of the Member for Arnhem (Mr Ah Kit) debate was adjourned.

8. AUSTRALASIA RAILWAY, SIGNING OFF – MINISTERIAL STATEMENT – STATEMENT NOTED:
      The Minister for the AustralAsia Railway (Mr Burke) made a statement relating to the signing off of the AustralAsia Railway on the 20 April 2001 (Paper 2468)
      Mr Burke moved – That the Assembly take note of the Statement..
      Debate ensued.
      Suspension of sittings: The sitting was suspended between 12:10 h and 14:15 h.
      Debate resumed.
      Paper tabled: The Member for Barkly (Mrs Hickey), by leave, laid on the Table the following Paper -

10. ADJOURNMENT:
      The Minister for Health, Family and Children’s Services (Mr Dunham) moved – That the Assembly do now adjourn.
