1. MEETING:
The Assembly met at 10.00 a.m., pursuant to adjournment. The Speaker, the Honourable N.M. Dondas, took the Chair.
2. PRAYERS.
3. PETITIONS:
Mrs Hickey presented a petition from 1050 citizens of the Northern Territory requesting the Assembly to prevent the closure of the Mataranka Health Clinic.
Petition read.
Mrs Hickey presented a petition from 371 citizens of the Northern Territory requesting the Assembly to prevent the closure of certain Northern Territory schools.
The petition was not read as it was in similar terms to petitions presented earlier these sittings.
4. DISTINGUISHED VISITOR - MR ROGER STEELE:
The Speaker informed the Assembly that Mr Roger Steele, former Speaker, Minister of the Crown and Member of
the Legislative Assembly was present in the gallery. The Speaker extended a warm welcome to Mr Steele.

6. PROPOSED CENSURE OF MINISTER FOR EDUCATION - CONFLICT OF INTEREST - MOTION NEGATIVED:
Suspension of Standing Orders:
The Member for Macdonnell (Mr Bell) moved - That so much of Standing Orders be suspended as would prevent
him from moving a motion to censure the Minister for Education (Mr Stone).
Question - put and passed - there being an absolute majority of the whole number of Members present and no dissentient voice.
Mr Bell thereupon moved - That this Assembly censures the Minister for Education for being an office holder of
private companies which receive secret donations to his political party while, at the same time, being a government minister.

7. PERSONAL EXPLANATION:
The Minister for Industries and Development (Mr Hatton) made a personal explanation relating to an answer he gave
during Question Time yesterday to the Member for Greatorex (Mr Collins) regarding power and water tariffs at
Kings Canyon Resort.
8. PROPOSED SUSPENSION OF STANDING ORDERS:
The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Ede) moved - That so much of Standing Orders be suspended as would prevent
him moving the following motion:
That this Assembly is of the opinion -
(1) That the Member for Braitling, by publicly denigrating a journalist on the letterhead of Speaker of this House, and then
relying on his position of Speaker to defend the subsequent defamation action, acted in a manner which tended to bring
the Office of Speaker into disrepute; and
(2) that the Member for Braitling should apologise to the Assembly for his conduct.
