      The Leader of Government Business (Mr Henderson), by leave, moved - That leave of absence be granted to the Member for Arafura (Ms Scrymgour) for the remainder of this sittings, 16 to 18 October 2007.

      The Leader of the Opposition (Ms Carney), by leave, moved - That leave of absence be granted to the Member for Blain (Mr Mills) for the remainder of the October sittings, 16 to 18 October 2007.

5. LETTER OF RESIGNATION - ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE, MEMBERSHIP:
      The Speaker laid on the Table a letter, dated 11 October 2007, from the Member for Nelson (Mr Wood) resigning as a member of the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee (Paper 1113).

6. ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE - DISCHARGE MEMBER - MOTION AGREED TO:
      The Leader of Government Business (Mr Henderson), by leave, moved - That the Member for Nelson (Mr Wood) be discharged from service on the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee.

7. PETITIONS:
      Responses to petitions:
      The Clerk, pursuant to Standing Order 100A, laid on the Table a response to petition No. 63 relating to the Monsoon Forest Walk at Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve (Paper 1114).

      The Clerk advised the Assembly the text of the response would be incorporated in the Hansard record.

8. MINISTERIAL REPORTS:
      Finance Officer in Training: The Treasurer (Mr Stirling) reported on the Finance Officer in Training Scheme (FOITS) managed by Treasury to recruit and retain highly skilled finance officers in the public service.
      Ms Carney responded.

      Electrofish Research: The Minister for Primary Industry and Fisheries (Mr Natt) reported on the Electrofish research program which monitors fresh water fish stocks surveys.
      Mrs Miller responded.
      Mr Wood responded.

      Truck Safety: The Minister for Infrastructure and Transport (Ms Lawrie) reported on truck safety measures for approaches to railway level crossings.
      Mrs Miller responded.
      Mr Wood responded.
      Ms Lawrie replied.

14. VOLUNTEER BUSHFIRE FIGHTERS - MINISTERIAL STATEMENT - STATEMENT NOTED:
      The Minister for Natural Resources, Environment and Heritage (Ms Lawrie) made a statement relating to Territorians who volunteer to fight bushfires and bushfire management control in the Territory.
      Ms Lawrie moved - That the Assembly take note of the Statement.
