1. MEETING:
The Assembly met at 10.00 a.m., pursuant to resolution of the Assembly of 10 October 1991.
The Speaker, the Honourable N.M. Dondas, took the Chair.

2. PRAYERS.

3. DEATH OF FORMER DEPUTY CLERK, N.J. GLEESON:
The Speaker informed Members that Mr Norman James Gleeson, former Deputy Clerk of the Legislative Assembly, died on
5 November 1991. The Speaker advised Members that he had forwarded a message of sympathy to Mrs Gleeson and family.

4. NOTICES:
The following notices were given:
Mr Reed: To present the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Amendment Bill 1991 (Serial 71).
Mr Reed: To present the Forestry Act Repeal Bill 1991 (Serial 72).

5. DISTINGUISHED VISITORS - PACIFIC ISLAND PARLIAMENTARY STUDY TOUR:
The Speaker informed the Assembly of the presence in the gallery of Members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Study Tour
from Pacific Island Parliaments comprising the Honourable Nuku, MP and Mr Teisina Fuko, MP from Tonga; Mrs O'Love Jacobsen, MLA,
and Mr Opili Talafasi, MLA, from Niue; and the Honourable Roy Degoregore, MP, from Nauru.
The Speaker extended a warm welcome to the distinguished visitors.

6. QUESTIONS:
The Leader of Government Business (Mr Setter) advised Members that the Chief Minister (Mr Perron) was unavoidably absent and that questions
should be directed to the Deputy Chief Minister (Mr Coulter) during Mr Perron's absence.
Questions were asked of Ministers.

7. FUTURE OF YULARA AND THE SHERATON HOTELS - MINISTERIAL STATEMENT - STATEMENT NOTED:
The Minister for Industries and Development (Mr Hatton) made a statement relating to the future of Yulara and the Sheraton Hotels in the Northern Territory.

Papers tabled: Mr Hatton laid on the Table the following Papers -

. Summary Report on the Investnorth Group of Companies for the Chief Minister, Northern Territory Government,
by BT Corporate Finance Limited, dated September 1991; and
. Realising the Potential of Yulara, Business Plan, Prepared for Investnorth Management Pty Ltd by the Collins Hill
Group Pty Ltd, dated October 1991.

Mr Hatton moved - That the Assembly take note of the Statement.

Debate ensued.
The Deputy Leader of the Opposition (Mr Bailey) moved the following amendment -

Omit all words after "That" and insert the following in their stead:

"this Government deserves the condemnation of this House for the careless, profligate and financially irresponsible manner
in which it has treated taxpayers' funds in respect of Yulara and the Sheraton-managed hotels in Alice Springs and Darwin.".

And the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Ede) addressing the Chair -
The Minister for Industries and Development (Mr Hatton) moved - That the Leader of the Opposition be no longer heard.
