1. MEETING:
The Assembly met at 10.00 a.m., pursuant to adjournment.
The Speaker, the Honourable T.R. McCarthy, took the Chair.

2. PRAYERS.

3. VISITORS:
The Speaker (Mr McCarthy) drew the attention of Honourable Members to the presence
in the gallery of Year 7 students from Millner Primary School and their teacher,
Mrs Marilyn Barter; senior citizens from the Joy Anderson Centre; and a group from the Probus Club.
On behalf of Honourable Members, the Speaker extended a warm welcome to the visitors.

4. PETITIONS:
The Member for Braitling (Mrs Braham) presented a petition from 58 petitioners
requesting the Assembly support the introduction of a ward system of local government
in Alice Springs (Paper 1715).
Petition read.

The Member for Braitling (Mrs Braham) presented a petition from 21 petitioners
requesting the Assembly implement best practice palliative care facilities in the
Northern Territory and that Members of the Assembly vote against the Rights of the
Terminally Ill Bill 1995 (Paper 1716).

5. QUESTIONS:
Questions were asked of Ministers.

7. INITIATIVES TO ADDRESS ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOUR IN URBAN AREAS
- MINISTERIAL STATEMENT - STATEMENT NOTED:
The Minister for Health and Community Services (Mr Reed) made a Statement relating
to initiatives to be introduced as part of the Northern Territory Government's Living with
Alcohol Program (Paper 1713).
Mr Reed moved - That the Assembly take note of the Statement.

8. PERSONAL EXPLANATION:
The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Ede), pursuant to Standing Order 57, made a personal
explanation relating to comments made by the Member for Casuarina (Mr Adamson)
during the previous debate regarding the non-return of telephone calls to people ringing
the Leader of the Opposition's Office.

9. PASTORAL LAND BOARD, ANNUAL REPORT, 1993-94 - PAPER TABLED
- MOTION TO NOTE PAPER:
The Minister for Lands, Housing and Local Government (Mr Hatton),by leave, laid on the
Table the Pastoral Land Board Annual Report for the year 1993 - 94 (Paper 1662).
Mr Hatton moved - That the Assembly take note of the Paper.

10. SESSIONAL COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT - REPORT INTO MARY
RIVER SYSTEM - PAPER TABLED - PAPER PRINTED - MOTION TO NOTE PAPER:
The Chairman of the Sessional Committee on the Environment (Dr Lim) laid on the Table
the Report into Matters relating to Environmental Protection and Multiple Use of
Wetlands associated with the Mary River System (Paper 1766) together with
submissions (Papers 1717-1734) and transcripts of evidence taken at briefings and
public hearings (Papers 1735-1765).
Dr Lim moved - That the Report be printed.
Question - put and passed.
Dr Lim moved - That the Assembly take note of the Report.

11. TRADE MEASUREMENT ADMINISTRATION AMENDMENT BILL 1995 (Serial 81):
The Attorney-General (Mr Finch), pursuant to notice, presented a Bill for an Act to
amend the Trade Measurement Administration Act.
Mr Finch moved - That the Bill be now read a second time.
On the motion of the Deputy Leader of the Opposition (Mrs Hickey) debate was adjourned.

12. TRUSTEE AMENDMENT BILL 1995 (Serial 82):
The Attorney-General (Mr Finch), pursuant to notice, presented a Bill for an Act to amend the Trustee Act.
