The Assembly resumed at 10.00h, pursuant to resolution suspending the sitting, dated 17 June 1997. The Speaker, the Honourable T.R. McCarthy, took the Chair.

Visitors: The Speaker (Mr McCarthy) drew the attention of Honourable Members to the presence in the gallery of Year 9 students from Dripstone High School and their teacher Ms Iolanthe Sutton.
On behalf of Honourable Members, the Speaker extended a warm welcome to the visitors.

And the Chairman (Mr Setter) ruling that the words were offensive and that the Member was not in order -
The Member for Macdonnell (Mr Bell) thereupon moved dissent from the Chairman’s ruling and submitted his dissent in writing accordingly, pursuant to Standing Order 220.

The Chief Minister (Mr Stone) moved - That pursuant to Standing Order 225 -

(1) That, unless otherwise ordered, at 10.00h on 19 June 1997 the Assembly resolve itself again into Committee of the Whole for further consideration of the Appropriation Bill 1997-98 (Serial 232); and

(2) That this sitting of the Assembly be suspended until 10.00h Thursday 19 June 1997.
