1. MEETING:
- The Assembly met at 10.00 a.m., pursuant to adjournment. The Speaker, the Honourable T.R. McCarthy, took the Chair.
2. PRAYERS.
3. VISITORS:
- The Speaker (Mr McCarthy) drew the attention of Honourable Members to the presence in the gallery of Local Government Officers from the Philippines who are studying at the Northern Territory University and their course coordinator, Ms Jenny Chaplin.
- On behalf of Honourable Members, the Speaker extended a warm welcome to the visitors.
4. PETITIONS:
- The Member for Macdonnell (Mr Bell) presented a petition from 24 petitioners requesting the Assembly refer the proposed Bill, entitled Rights of the Terminally Ill, to a Select Committee in order that the Committee may consult with members of the Northern Territory community and report back to the Assembly (Paper 499).
- The Member for Port Darwin (Mr Stone) presented a petition, not conforming with Standing Orders, from 1539 petitioners requesting the Assembly amend the proposed Gaming legislation in order that certain hotels and clubs within the Northern Territory will be given equal access in relation to the introduction of gaming machines (Paper 500).
- Petition read.

• “Territory Labor Policy on Nightclubs”, Draft, 9 December 1994 (Paper 496).

- • Letter, Libby Gladwin, Director, Funding and Disclosure, Australian Electoral Commission to Mr G R Nairn, Northern Territory Country Liberal Party, re Annual Return 1993-94, dated 20 December 1994 (Paper 497).

6. CANNONBALL RUN - MINISTERIAL STATEMENT - STATEMENT NOTED:
- The Chief Minister (Mr Perron) made a Statement relating to the outcomes of the Coroner’s findings into the fatal accident during the Cannonball Run (Paper 501).
- Mr Perron moved - That the Assembly take note of the Statement.

The Member for Macdonnell (Mr Bell) moved the following amendment to the motion -
Add at the end the following -
“and expresses concerns at the Chief Minister’s failure to announce any conditions under which he would allow a future event to occur”.

7. PERSONAL EXPLANATION:
- The Member for Macdonnell (Mr Bell), by leave, made a personal explanation of parts of his speech made in the debate on the Cannonball Run statement which he claims was misunderstood by the Attorney-General (Mr Finch).
- The Minister for Sport and Recreation (Mr Poole) made a Statement relating to the Women in Sport and Recreation Policy (Paper 502).
- Paper tabled: Mr Poole laid on the Table the following Paper -
- • “Policy and Strategy Statement for Northern Territory Women in Sport and Recreation”, prepared by the Sport Development Branch, Client Services Division of the Department of Sport and Recreation (Paper 503).
Mr Poole moved - That the Assembly take note of the Statement.

- The Minister for Conservation (Mr Coulter) moved - That in accordance with the Territory Parks and Wildlife Act, this Assembly resolves to recommend to the Administrator that, pursuant to section 13(1) of that Act, he amend Notice dated 30 June 1978 and published at page 3 of Gazette No. 26A on that day, by omitting from Schedule 2 to that Notice, the item relating to the Cape Hotham Flora and Fauna Reserve.
