1. MEETING:
- The Assembly met at 10.00 h. The Speaker, the Honourable T R McCarthy, took the Chair.
2. PRAYERS.
3. BROADCAST OF PROCEEDINGS – STATEMENT:
- The Speaker advised Honourable Members that he had given permission for ABC TV and Channel 8 to broadcast live or rebroadcast, with sound and vision, the Opposition’s Budget reply and for 8 Top-FM Radio to broadcast live the Opposition’s Budget reply.
4. VISITORS:
- The Speaker (Mrs Braham) acknowledged the presence in the Gallery of Year 11 Legal Studies students from Darwin High School accompanied by their teacher Ms Sara Waylen and students from the Certificate IV in Business (Administration), Faculty of Foundation Studies, Northern Territory University.
- Mr Speaker further acknowledged the presence in the Gallery of English as a Second Language students and their teacher Ms Faye Austin.
On behalf of Honourable Members, the Speaker extended a warm welcome to the visitors.
5. PETITION:
- The Member for Wanguri (Mr Bailey) presented a petition from 200 petitioners requesting the Assembly to prevent residential development on Lots 6833 and 6834 Town of Sanderson (Paper 1090).

9. PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE – INQUIRY INTO THE ROLE OF FUNDING BODIES FOR DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS ON ABORIGINAL OUTSTATIONS AND COMMUNITIES - AMENDMENT TO REPORTING DATE:
- The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (Mr Lugg), by leave, moved – This Assembly, in paragraph (2) as contained in the motion establishing the Public Accounts Committee’s reference of inquiry into the role of funding bodies for development projects on Aboriginal outstations and communities passed by the Assembly on 24 February 1998, be omitted and the following words inserted in their stead “during the June 1999 sittings”.
