1. MEETING:
The Assembly met at 10am. The Acting Speaker, the Mr L. Kiely took the Chair.

2. PRAYERS.

3. VISITORS:
      The Acting Speaker advised Members of the presence in the public galleries of Bachelor of Education students from the Batchelor Institute accompanied by Robyn Ober.
      On behalf of all Members the Acting Speaker extended a warm welcome to the visitors.
4. PETITIONS:
      The Member for Daly (Mr Knight) presented petition No. 25 from 29 petitioners requesting the Marrakai Downs bus route be changed. (Paper 480)

      The Member for Goyder (Mr Warren) presented petition No. 24 from 31 petitioners requesting the Middle Point School be given two permanent teachers for 2007 and 2008. (Paper 479)

      The Member for Goyder (Mr Warren) presented petition No. 26 from 202 petitioners requesting approval for a kennel and cattery on Lot 3296 De Caen Close, Virginia be overturned. (Paper 481)
      Petition read.

      The Member for Goyder (Mr Warren), by leave, presented petition No. 27, not conforming with Standing Orders, from 17 petitioners relating to the approval for a kennel and cattery on Lot 3296 De Caen Close, Virginia be overturned. (Paper 482)

5. MINISTERIAL REPORTS:
      Indigenous Women in Tourism: The Chief Minister (Ms Martin) reported on an indigenous women tourism initiative to increase their involvement in tourism projects.
      Mrs Miller responded.

      Defence Prime Contractors: The Minister for Defence Support (Mr Henderson) reported on the initiative to attract defence Prime Contractors to Darwin and create a defence support services hub on land south of Robertson Barracks.

      Dry Season Sporting Events: The Minister for Sport and Recreation (Ms Lawrie) reported on major elite Dry Season Sporting events; Finke Desert Race, AFL matches, international One Day Cricket match and V8 Touring Cars.

      Environment Grants to Schools: The Minister for Natural Resources, Environment and Heritage (Ms Scrymgour) reported on Environment Grants to Schools for heritage projects.

6. DARWIN WATERFRONT CORPORATION BILL 2006 (Serial 55):
      The Chief Minister (Ms Martin), pursuant to notice, presented a Bill for an Act to establish the Darwin Waterfront Corporation and for related purposes.

      Ms Martin moved - That the Bill be now rad a second time.

13. INDIGENOUS AFFAIRS, DYSFUNCTION IN REMOTE COMMUNITIES - MINISTERIAL STATEMENT - STATEMENT NOTED:
      The Chief Minister (Ms Martin) made a statement relating to the disorder and violence, the incidence of child abuse, and the dysfunction and disarray in some remote communities.
      Ms Martin moved - That the Assembly take note of the Statement.
