- Responses: The Clerk, pursuant to Standing Order 100A, presented a response to Petition No. 9 relating to a merging lane on Stuart Highway at the intersection of Virginia Road (Paper 471).
- The Clerk advised the Assembly the text of the responses would be incorporated in the Hansard record.

4. CRIMINAL CODE AMENDMENT (BUSHFIRES) BILL 2009 (Serial 54):
- The Minister for Justice and Attorney-General (Ms Lawrie), pursuant to notice, presented a Bill for an Act to amend the Criminal Code.
Bill read a first time.
Ms Lawrie moved – That the Bill be now read a second time.

5. JUSTICE LEGISLATION (PENALTIES) AMENDMENT BILL 2009 (Serial 53):
- The Minister for Justice and Attorney-General (Ms Lawrie), pursuant to notice, presented a Bill for an Act to amend various Acts and subordinate legislation administered by the Minister for Justice and Attorney-General by standardising penalty provisions.
Bill read a first time.
Ms Lawrie moved – That the Bill be now read a second time.
