218. Adult Correctional Services - Review

QUESTION

I would be grateful if you would provide the answer to the following question in relation to the Justice Department's Budget for 2004-05. In order to assist you, please note that this question relates to output group: 3.0 Correctional Services (3.1: Custodial Services).

1. In relation to the Review into Adult Correctional Services generally –

Why did you say in the media that all prison officers were happy with the Review’s recommendations, when you knew that that was not the case, and in fact when representatives of your Department spent a period of about 6 weeks after you released the Review negotiating with representatives of the Prison Officers Association about their ongoing concerns about staffing levels.
