221. Reintegration strategies for prisoners

Ms Carney to MINISTER for Justice and Attorney-General

QUESTION

I would be grateful if you would provide the answers to the following questions in relation to the Justice Department's Budget for 2004-05. In order to assist you, please note that this question relates to output group: 3.0 Correctional Services (3.1: Custodial Services).

1. In a press release the Attorney jointly issued with the Minister for Police on 18th May 2004, the day of the Budget, it stated that $200,000 was allocated “for developing better reintegration strategies for prisoners being released…”

Please advise:

(a) How will that $200,000 be spent and when will it be available; and

(b) Does that $200,000 represent funding for the Integrated Offender Management Scheme/Program, and if so how much.
