Airport Public Transport

1. Has any consideration been given by the Northern Territory Government to provide public transport to and from Darwin Airport.

An examination of this issue has been undertaken.

2. If so, what has been the outcome?
The private operator of the Darwin Airport Shuttle Bus has a service that meets every arriving plane and conveys passengers to all Darwin and CBD hotels. This company also has a booking service for departing passengers designed to have passengers at the airport in order to meet all airline check-in requirements. Costs vary from $7 to $11 depending on passenger numbers.

Taxis and mini buses, together with the Airport Shuttle generally service the airport in sufficient numbers to provide door to door services to the CBD, suburbs and rural areas.

The department is currently investigating options for public transport to service the airport precinct during peak periods.
      3. If the Northern Territory Government has commissioned any reports and or option discussion papers on this matter would these papers be provided.
No reports or papers were commissioned. This was an internal examination of the issues using known costs, distances, employee awards and scheduling requirements.
