Recorded statistics from 1988 to 1998 show a total of 974 accidents involving pushbikes were recorded1. Approximately 22% of the recorded accidents involving pushbikes involved persons who were wearing helmets compared to approximately 25% where helmets were not worn. In approximately 33% of the accidents it was not known or recorded if helmets were worn and a further 20% of the statiscs were recorded as not applicable (usually an adult not required to wear a helmet).
