Over the past two financial years 1996/97 and 1997/98, what money has been spent on community visits by town based staff to monitor and negotiate with Aboriginal community based council staff?

ANSWER
1. As the question was directed to the Minister for Local Government, the figures provided by the Department are only relevant to the activities of the Local Government Division and have been calculated by estimating what percentage was for community visits as opposed to management meetings, training etcetera. Katherine Region figures have been omitted to enable parity with the non-availability of their visit statistics (see below).
2-3. The figures below are for visits made by Local Government Division staff to communities and are the best available estimates over the two year period. Visit figures do not include Katherine Region as their records were destroyed in the January 1998 floods.
