Fire Services - Conditions of Service

1. Do Fire Officers who are compulsorily transferred by the Fire Service for one or two year's service in another centre have eligibility for Housing Commission accommodation or a rental subsidy.

2. If the answer to question 1 is yes, has this condition of service been removed, or is it planned to remove it.

3. If the answer to question 2 is yes, what is the reason for removing that condition of service.

ANSWER

1. Fire Service Officers whether compulsorily transferred or not, are generally not eligible for Housing Commission accommodation due to changes in the eligibility criteria and means testing for Public Housing introduced in September 1991.

However, in some smaller communities where private housing is not readily available, Fire Service personnel are accommodated through industry housing arrangements.

Rental subsidies are provided under the Public Sector Employment and Management Act 1993, Determination No 2, Schedule 1, Rental Rebate for members in specified locations.

2. There is no move to alter these conditions of service.

3. Not applicable.
