ANSWER
Answered on 11/08/2004
The Marine and Fisheries Enforcement Unit liaises closely with the Fishery Management Officers of the Fisheries’ Group, Department of Business, Industry and Resource Development.
Risk Assessments are conducted in respect to activities in the Fishery and enforcement effort is directed to those areas where risk is recognised.
Since 1 May 2004, there have been 13 checks on shark fishery licences, consequential to the Risk Assessment determination.
The vessels were checked against all licence conditions, including those in relation to percentage of frozen or fresh fin weight as opposed to trunk or fillet weight.
No offences have been detected thus far.
